Tourism leaders are seeking a fourfold funding increase for New Jersey's 16 local tourism boards in the proposed state budget.
They say $8 million is needed to support a tourism industry rebound in 2010. The boards currently are slated to receive $1.9 million.
Former state tourism director Noreen Bodman says the additional funding would yield an economic impact of $100 million. Bodman says it would create 500 jobs and produce $20 million in sales, income and special taxes for the state.
