New Jersey DMOs Announce to Press Their Push for Tourism Funding

Publication: GoCentralJersey.com
Date: Mar 24, 2009

Sixteen Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) across New Jersey met on Monday, March 23 at MacCulloch Hall in Morristown, NJ to sign and announce to the press a joint Declaration of Destination and White Paper illustrating the impact of tourism on the state's economy and the necessity to retain its funding. Representatives from the signing Destination Marketing Organzations spoke of the need for consistent funding from the state so that DMOs can effectively market their regions, thus driving tourism and dollars into New Jersey.

These documents were written in response to Goveor Corzine's budget cuts, specifically those relating to tourism. They maintain that "the travel and tourism industry is the third largest business sector in the state of New Jersey accounting for $38 billion in revenues. One (1) out of every Nine (9) New Jersey workers has a job in tourism with a total of 470,000 direct and indirect jobs, accounting for 11.4% of total employment and approximately $16 billion in wages and salaries".

The event was broadcast on News Channel 12 with representatives from other local press in attendance.
